This recipe speaks to my heart because I love cinnamon rolls, I love apple pie, and when the two combine, you have an unbelievably delicious dessert or breakfast treat. My husband, who rarely eats sweets, will not turn this down!

I have made this when we have guests staying with us, I have taken it to potluck gatherings, and to family holiday get-togethers – every time someone asked for the recipe, and I happily shared!

Usually, I don’t make many shortcut recipes since I love baking and making everything from scratch. This recipe is one that I will make in a heartbeat and without regret! You will understand once you make this and keep the recipe close because you will be making it often.



2 cans of refrigerated canned cinnamon rolls with icing (8 count in each)

2 cups of apple pie filling diced into smaller chunks

½ Tbsp. fresh lemon juice

5 Tbsp. butter – melted

⅓ cup of brown sugar

2 tsp. of cinnamon

1 cup of pecansGarnish:Icing from cinnamon rollsMaple syrup (if desired) –I found it was sweet enough without it.


Preheat the oven to 375°F.

Butter a 3 qt. casserole dish and set aside.

Open both cans of cinnamon rolls and set the icing aside.

Cut each cinnamon roll into 4 pieces and place all the pieces in the prepared casserole dish.

Melt butter and pour over the cinnamon roll pieces

In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon.

Sprinkle the cinnamon mixture over the top of the buttered cinnamon roll pieces.

Into a larger bowl, pour both cans of apple pie filling. Cut up the apples and place them back in the bowl. Add the lemon juice and mix together.

Add the diced apples and filling over top of the crumble, then the pecan halves.

Use a spoon to mix these into the casserole a bit to incorporate. Don’t mix completely, only a bit. Cover with a lid or aluminum foil.

Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes.

Remove cover and bake for another 3-5 minutes or until golden brown on top. (Be careful while browning because pecans can burn quickly when on top)

Place all the icing in a microwave safe bowl and melt slightly for 10 seconds.

Drizzle the warm icing over the casserole and serve warm!


• FRUIT PIE FILLING: If you don’t care for apple pie filling or have any, just choose another fruit pie filling in a can and it will be fabulous as well.

• SPICES: Cinnamon is not the only spice that makes this dish fabulous – nutmeg, cloves, or allspice work well.

• STORING: Cover tightly with foil or plastic wrap, or place in an airtight container and refrigerate after the casserole cools to room temperature. This will last for about 3 days in the fridge.

• REHEAT: If casserole is in the baking dish that it baked in, cover the entire dish with foil and cook at 350°F for 15 minutes or until heated through or cut individual pieces and pop them into the microwave for 30-45 seconds.

• ICING: If you prefer not to drizzle icing over the whole casserole, you can set it out for each person to drizzle a bit on theirs.
