German Potato Pancakes

Potato Pancakes, also known as “Kartoffelpfannkuchen” in German, are a traditional dish in German cuisine made from grated potatoes, flour, and eggs. They are typically pan-fried and served with a variety of toppings, including apple sauce or sour cream. This recipe calls for just 7 simple ingredients and is a delicious and easy to make vegetarian dish that can be enjoyed as a main meal or as a side dish.

1 small onion

1 lb potatoes

1 medium-sized egg

3 tbsp flour

1 pinch pepper

1 pinch salt

1 oil (for frying)

Grate the onion and potatoes using a box grater or a food processor.

In a bowl, beat the egg. Add the grated onion and potatoes, flour, pepper, and salt, and mix well.

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Using a 1/4 cup measure, pour the batter into the hot oil. Flatten the batter to form a pancake shape.

Fry the pancake for about 3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

Repeat with the remaining batter, adding more oil if needed.

Serve the German potato pancakes hot with your favorite toppings, such as sour cream or apple sauce. Enjoy!
